GRAINNE WATTS

The ‘Vortex’ series of vessels have developed over the past couple of years, and are inspired by some wonderful eroded and indented stones that I have collected over many years on the beaches of Connemara. 

 

The vessels are thrown in two parts, joined and then carefully turned until the desired form is achieved. A lengthy drying process follows before the first firing to prevent cracking and after the bisque firing; each piece is carefully sanded before the decorating process begins.

 

Each piece is hand painted, using diluted layers of under glazes to create the background colour. The dot pattern is built up using various fine brushes.
